Challah for Hunger
Kneading dough to save the world

Challah for Hunger has already completed the daunting task of making and selling 60 challot, but they aren't stopping there. With the helpful addition of a new dough hook, they aim to make up to 300 challot per week. Challah for Hunger, part of Hillel's social justic and service programming, offers students a chance to make challah from scratch while socializing with friends, then sell the challah and donate the profits to different charities.
Fourth prayer service expands rapidly

When it comes to prayer, who said longer was better? Hillel's CtC Minyan, which stands for "Cut the Carlebach," is an abridged service that has grown in attendance this past year. CtC shortens the sometimes-lengthy regular Carlebach-style services by minimizing the musical aspects of the prayers.

It's an odd sight to see a packed room at Hillel screaming, "Jew!" or "Not Jew!" to a screen showing photos of celebrities. It is even more off-putting to hear racial slurs and stereotypes received with laughter and applause. Following last year's disappointment of Purim falling during spring break, Jewish students across campus welcomed Purim on Monday night and Tuesday with costume parties and a variety of events planned by several Jewish organizations. The celebrations began with a carnival sponsored by Hillel's Programming Organization (HiPO) at Hillel on Sunday, March 8.
Orthodox group introduces message board

Many students and organizations are turning to an internet-based collective resource forum for their needs. The goal of one of the newest online resouces, the Kedma forum, is to facilitate communication between members of the community, according to the University of Maryland's Orthodox Jewish group.
