Ambassador speaks of Israeli efforts toward peace

Sallai Meridor, the Ambassador of Israel to the United States, affirmed Israel's commitment to peace and hope for the future in a speech May 5 to a full crowd in Van Munching Hall. The lecture and reception were free and open to the public, and marked the inaugural lecture of the Richard and Elizabeth Dubin Distinguished Lecture Series entitled "Israel at 60: Facing Threats, Keeping Hope" by the Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies.

With this year marking Israel's 60th birthday, campus organizations are working together to ensure the occasion is properly commemorated and the spirit of Israel is brought to campus. Yom Ha'atzmaut marks the proclamation of the establishment of the state of Israel, which was read by David Ben Gurion on May 14, 1948.
JSAC events raise money, reach out to children

The Jewish Social Action Committee has been making waves with community service during a surge in recent charitable events toward the end of the semester. On May 1, JSAC raised over $2,200 in its first Dollar Day fundraiser, even after weather conditions required the event be moved from its original date on April 28.
