New Kosher Cafe reaches untapped late-night crowd

But freshman business major Jacob Silvermetz wasted no time in pursuing the first business venture of his college career. At the beginning of this semester, Silvermetz looked at the burnt-out Bobb's Café sign above one small corner of Maryland Hillel and was inspired.

Renowned speaker and U.S. foreign policy expert Dr. Yaron Brook presented a thought-provoking and passionate lecture on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the campus community on April 24, sparking a two-hour discussion about his controversial views. As onlookers sat under a giant tent outside Hornbake Library on a damp and windy Sunday evening, student after student made his way to the podium to read the names of the nearly 12 million lives lost in the Holocaust. The Holocaust Remembrance Day Vigil, which fell this year on April 19, was rife with emotion as students braved unpleasant outdoor conditions to pay tribute to the Jewish souls lost in one of the most horrific tragedies in world history.

Students give back to community during Tzedek Service Day

Tzedek Hillel sponsored Service Day on Sunday, April 15. The event sent students to four different sites in the metropolitan area. The day commenced with a brunch at Hillel and a performance by Rak Shalom. Tzedek Hillel's mission statement reads, "The purpose of Tzedek Hillel is to create new models of community service and advocacy for Jewish students at University of Maryland.

Iran Awareness Week was a week-long series of cultural and political events that focused on celebrating Iran but opposing extremism in the country.
Ayn Rand Institute president offers "Objectivist" opinion

On Tuesday April 24, Yaron Brook, president of the Ayn Rand Institute discussed the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict from a unique perspective an event hosted by the Terrapin Objectivists. "A lot of confusion and misinformation is provided by professors," Brook, who follows the ideas of Ayn Rand, said.
